The name

Why jerlash.labs?

jerlash.labs takes its name from a nod to Étienne Constantin de Gerlache (1785–1871), a jurist and statesman from Liège who took part in the founding of independent Belgium and in the drafting of its Constitution. jerlash is a phonetic, contemporary reinterpretation of “Gerlache”, bringing this historical heritage into dialogue with the technological transformations of our time.

The choice of this name also has a personal dimension: the law firm of the founder of jerlash.labs is located on avenue Constantin-de-Gerlache, in Liège. A double nod to the history of Belgian law and to the place where the project was born. Nearly two centuries on, artificial intelligence and new technologies invite us to rethink our practices, our knowledge and our institutions.

jerlash.labs is part of this approach: exploring the transformations of law and society where philosophy, research and technology meet, in order to help think through the practices of tomorrow.
